MINUTES OF THE GENERAL MEETING May 17, 2010
President Larry DuSavage called the meeting to order at 10:00 AM at the Silverdale Community Center. There were 55 members and guests present. Larry welcomed members and guests, and read the names of new members who had joined the Club at the last meeting.
All those present joined Vice President Roberta Messinger in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States.
Larry introduced Lorrie Colby, who was the mystery person described in the May Newsletter.
Lenore Stanfel announced there were 6 seats left on the KCS bus trip on 19 August. She asked that payments for the trip be made by the end of June. The cost will be $35 each person. To sign on for the Bus Tour, contact Lenore at her E-mail address of lstanfel@earthlink.net .
Clinton Geiger, Program Chairman, introduced the speaker, Kitsap County Deputy Sheriff Pete Ball. Deputy Ball discussed the Kitsap Sheriff’s website; www.kitsapgov.com/sheriff/default.htm which can be used to read media reports, obtain crime statistics, volunteer, and other items of interest. Also, crime reports of a non-emergency nature can be filed on this website.
Deputy Ball told about a Public Outreach Office that will open in June at the Kitsap Mall, to be used in conjunction with the existing Silverdale Sheriff’s Annex. This office will be staffed primarily by volunteers, but will also be used by Deputies to do their administrative work. A Traffic Safety Coordinator will also be stationed at the Outreach Office. He described one volunteer program, Citizens on Patrol, that not only enforces Handicap Parking Regulations, but will also do drive-by patrols of houses whose owners are on vacation.
The Deputy gave information on Concealed Carry Permits that resulted in a lively question/answer session. He highlighted the point that firearms safety training is extremely important for anyone thinking of obtaining such a permit. |

Comments were also provided on computer security and identity theft. He stressed that one should only use a secure web site when doing online banking or buying with a credit card. Keep watch on your banking and credit card statements and cancel them if it appears they have been compromised. Also notify local law enforcement authorities immediately, if at home; or other law departments if you are traveling away from home.
The audience had a multitude of questions that were all answered by the Deputy. This indicated they were greatly interested in the presentation, Larry DuSavage thanked Deputy Pete Ball for his fine presentation and the Club members provided an enthusiastic applause.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:10 AM for the Potluck Lunch
